Phinney was in the middle of a large pack of riders when wheels suddenly touched and riders hit the deck. Phinney rode to the stage finish at the Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort in the team car.

He was taken to a hospital in Bend for treatment, but there is good news from Taylor...he sent this message out via Twitter: "I'm ALIVE!!! Remember nothing and have a 'severe' concussion... Spirits are high and @axelmerckx is here. Gonna practice some magic ;)"

We were on the scene shortly after Phinney's crash. Some may find the post-crash photos upsetting. If you think you might be offended, do not proceed from here.
