You've got to love Thomas Voeckler. In 2004, he strained and suffered in the mountains, and held the yellow jersey for 10 days. But he'd never won a stage of the Tour de France. Until today. Vockler, the leader of the BBox team, jumps into the break shortly after the gun, and holds off the hard-charging peloton, winning Stage 5 at the finish line in Perpignan. Katusha's Mikhail Ignatiev holds on for second, while Mark Cavendish settles for third, and Tyler Farrar is fourth. The overall standings stay the same. Saxo Bank's Fabian Cancellara still leads Lance Armstrong by just 22/100th of a second. So, what about the socks? Who was prescient enough today to pick the winner in our CycleTo "Tour Socks" contest? Well... No one gave Voeckler a chance. Nobody picked today's winner, with the vast majority of entries split between Cavendish or Farrar. Better luck next time. So, entries are open for Stage 6. Pick your winner and send your top three selections to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we'll award another pair of CycleTo socks tomorrow. Full contest details are here. Will a Spanish rider succeed when the race rolls into into his home country? Will Alberto Contador attack Lance on the run into Barcelona? Tomorrow's race may be a good indicator of things to come. |
